I'm a 16M, so I'm Gen Z. Everytime I watch some JDM car edits on YouTube, I can bet you $100 there will be a comment containing the word "Bruh." The word used to be cool to meback when I was 12 to 13, but when I turned 15, I started to find that word cringe. I hate the word. It makes me cringe everytime I see it on a YouTube comment.
My go-to’s are typically “bruh,”“bro,” “damn,” “really,” “that’s crazy,” etc My responses are literally way too childish, boring, and it kills the conversation. Like how do I sharpen the conversation and become more attentive during it? What are better responses that will progress the conversation?
One source says that "bruh" is "A form of the word brother that originated in Black English during the late 1800s. It was popularized as a way for Black men to address each other in the 1900s." 20 y.o. female here to tell you that "bruh" is not a new word but it is very widespread now, especially with people younger than you.
To be fair, I call kids bruh and say bruh. I'm a younger teacher, and my age group grew up doing that, and it hasn't died off yet. However, I have stressed that anytime someone is in trouble, you don't call me bro or bruh, I'm mister when you get me going, lol.
